Michael Dawson reflected on a memorable adventure in Europe last season and hopes the experience will be of benefit when we return to UEFA Cup competition next season. The team suffered just a single defeat in ten UEFA Cup outings last season, the costly reverse coming away to Sevilla in a game where the team started so well before being rocked by a controversial penalty decision that allowed the Spaniards to level the score and go on to take a 2-1 lead into the second leg. Despite coming back from two goals down at the Lane, it was not to be and we were left with our memories of our first season back in Europe since 2000.

"It was fantastic, the whole experience was great and hopefully we can learn from it and take it into next year," Daws looked back.

"The penalty decision was not right, but that is football and you've got to deal with these things. We've had lots of ups and downs and dealt with them," added the central defender, who believes our squad are not too far away from taking the next step.

"Definitely and I hope it is not in the too distant future that we manage to get our hands on a trophy. It would be a great feeling for myself, the club and the supporters.

"Winning trophies is hard but, as I keep saying, with the players we have got here we are capable of it."
