DAWS' DELIGHT FOR TG

Michael Dawson was delighted for Anthony Gardner as he watched his fellow defender's performance against Manchester City from the stands at the Lane.

'Daws' was suspended for Saturday’s Premiership clash after his sending off at Newcastle the week before.

He partnered Anthony at St James Park with Ledley King injured and the pair were put under intense pressure as Newcastle stormed into a 3-1 lead in the opening half-hour.

Anthony later admitted he felt a little off the pace in that first half but 'TG' was back on song as we bagged another vital home victory against City.

"It’s a squad game and whoever plays, as long as we win, that’s all that matters," said Michael, who will also have to sit out Saturday’s trip to Everton.

"I started the season with TG when Ledley was injured and he was fantastic.

"It’s hard when you aren’t playing regularly and you come into a game like that, especially away at a place like Newcastle and up against someone like Alan Shearer.

"It takes three or four games to get into the swing of things really and show what you can do.

"I thought TG did really well against City and you need that - it's about the squad and players need to come in and perform and he did that."
