The striker, 18, bagged a hat-trick in the second half of Wednesday night’s pre-season friendly as our Spurs XI side ran out 8-1 winners at Woodside Park.
It was his first treble in Spurs colours and Bishop’s Stortford kindly allowed him to take home the match ball – he’s pictured with it at the ground after last night’s game.
“It’s my first match ball,†beamed Simon afterwards. “I was delighted when the third goal went in because I knew time was running out.
“I was pleased with the goals. I followed in Andy Barcham’s shot for the first goal, I had to react quickly for the second goal and I was practising the skill for the third goal with Ricardo (Moniz) the skills coach in the morning, so I was pleased with that one!
“I’ve scored four goals in three games now in pre-season – these friendlies are important and you have to take every opportunity you get.
“I feel confident and I’ve matured over the last six months. I just want to keep it going because I know I need to push on this season.â€Â
If pre-season is all about catching the eye for our younger players then Simon Dawkins thrust himself into the limelight at Bishop's Stortford.
