The Welsh midfielder had played nine matches on the trot and an international after returning from a virus in the FA Cup tie at West Brom in January.
So he sat it out at the Valley and Head Coach Martin said: "Simon was injured for months and ill, but he's played all the games since he came back. He's been a regular.
"I didn't want to exhaust him and it was better to rest him and save him for Saturday against Manchester City."
Martin Jol reported that Simon Davies was rested from last night's defeat at Charlton.
