*Davies recalls wonder goal

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Simon Davies didn't quite realise how good his wonder goal for Wales in Croatia was until he watched a video re-run back home.

Our exciting midfielder scored what Mark Hughes duly described as 'one of the great international goals' in last week's 1-1 friendly draw in Zagreb.

Simon spun away from three defenders in his own half and raced away from another two before sliding the ball under the goalkeeper.

The 22-year-old talked us through the goal-den moment. "I picked up the ball inside our half, ran, turned to my right, knocked it between two defenders and then I was through.

"Once I got past the last defender there was no pressure, the keeper came out and I slid it under him. I was delighted to see it go in.

"I've seen it again now, my dad taped it for me and it looked better on TV!

"I thought it was quite a good goal. It would have been better if it was in a qualifying game but I was just pleased to get off the mark."

Wales boss Hughes was soon waxing lyrical about the Haverfordwest-born star.

The Manchester United legend said: "It was a very special goal and underlined what quality he has.

"He is going to be a big, big Premiership player and also just as important for us in the future.

"He has very quickly become a senior player with us, despite his age. He's influential and has great confidence in his ability.

"It was one of the great international goals that people will watch over and over again."

Simon was clearly flattered. "Any praise from Mark Hughes is great," he said. "He's been brilliant for me since he took over the job.

"I've played the last nine games now and hopefully I'll now start the big one against Finland next month."
