That would be for Italy to slip up against Azerbaijan at home and therefore allow Wales, with a win against Serbia & Montenegro, to go through to the finals as group winners.
Even Simon suggests that is unlikely and instead looks ahead to a two-legged play-off that could pair them with the likes of Holland, Turkey or England, Spain, Scotland or the Republic of Ireland.
Simon, who misses out through injury, insisted: "At home we've done it and we've proved it to ourselves with the result against Italy.
"We have to beleve we can get the right result whoever we play.
"We haven't been in this situation for years so it would be very disappointing if we don't finally get to the finals.
"We've been looking forward to it for the last two years and there has been a lot of pressure but the lads have responded. Whatever happens, it's been a great experience."
Simon Davies says Wales need fear no-one in the Euro 2004 play-offs - assuming the unexpected doesn't happen on Saturday.
