Edgar Davids checked in at White Hart Lane for his official unveiling and said he hopes his time as a Spurs player will be a 'wonderful journey'.
The former Ajax, AC Milan and Juventus midfielder completed his switch from Inter Milan in the early hours of this morning and is available for selection on Saturday when Porto arrive at the Lane for our final pre-season friendly ahead of our Premiership opener against Portsmouth seven days on.
Of course, as Edgar quickly pointed out, Saturday won't be the first time he has stepped out to play in N17. He was a member of the Holland team that defeated England 2-0 here in 2001.
"It won't be the first time, but it will be the first as a Spurs player," he beamed. "I am delighted about it all, it is a beautiful place and I hope to have a wonderful journey.
"I was really delighted to finally write my signature and I am looking forward to training and playing with the guys."
The 32-year-old stated the presence of Martin Jol as Head Coach was a significant factor in his decision to join after a not so productive season spent in Milan, adding that the lure of competing in the Premiership presents a further challenge in his hugely successful career.
"It was an influence because I want to enjoy the game again. I know how Martin trains and I know how he gets his teams to play. This is very important.
"It is also a challenge here because for every game you have to be prepared and there is no such thing as a small club.
Edgar is well aware of the abilities possessed by our young crop of players and hopes his experience will help guide them to the next level
"They are very talented and I hope I can help them bring it out on the pitch - then we will be alright.
"I think I can help lift them but I think they will have to help me out as well because that is how it goes. We are fortunate to have a very talented team so I am confident we can have a good time.
"It is going to be hard because it is one of the best leagues in the world. I am just delighted to be here."
