David's response

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

David Pleat has responded forcibly to reports in today’s newspapers in which he appears to criticise former manager Glenn Hoddle.

In an in-depth interview with the Sunday Times, David commented on many matters but the approach in today’s follow-ups means that some of his comments have been taken out of context.

Said David: “I fully understand the misrepresentation of responses to questions when giving answers and I should know the pitfalls. Last week I suggested Glenn may have been ‘obsessed’ with the three centre back system. Perhaps a better choice of words would have been ‘favoured.’

“Also I said the club was still the biggest in London but had been mismanaged since the sixties in terms of league success. There was no connection between the two answers and was referring to the last 40 years. I should not have to apologise for honest answers.”
