Edgar Davids wore the look of a contented footballer as he reflected on his first goal in English football in our first meeting with Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The team needed another goal to see off the challenge of a confident Wigan side and Davids delivered in style on 77 minutes to double the advantage after Robbie Keane's first half strike.

Despite a late reply from Paul Jewell's men, a welcome three points were added to our Premiership tally after four games without maximum profit - the most important factor in the view of the combative Dutchman.

It feels terrific and it sealed a win so that is even more special because we needed the points

"That is the thing, but we can also play badly and take the points. In the end it is the results that count and I am very happy with this win. We needed this one as well because we didn't feel good about the draw we had last week.

Edgar went on to respond to the suggestion that he is looking fitter, faster and stronger each time he takes to the pitch.

"I think it looks that way but it is about the team and they are making it easier for me to get into certain positions. It is very good and I came here to make sure we do very well. We are trying to work on the team performances to do that."
