'Digger' joined us in January 2000, has made over 100 appearances and is now seen as one of our key players with his energy and goals from midfield.
It's the same scenario with Wales and he's now earned 18 full caps, scoring four goals.
Unfortunately, he's suffered a nightmare with injuries this season with hip and shin problems restricting him to just 18 games - the hip problem keeping him out for almost five months.
Acting boss and director of football David said: "Simon is a good professional, works hard and has had a lot of misfortune with injury this season.
"He's 24 and is a major player for Wales. We have a fine player in our midst that unfortunately we haven't been able to maximise this season for various reasons. We've certainly missed the benefit of his goals.
"Simon is very much part of this club's future."
