David Pleat's preview

Posted on 16 August 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

David Pleat says the prospect of young hotshot Wayne Rooney starting against us at Everton on Saturday is an 'intriguing' one in this video exclusive previewing our trip to Goodison Park.

Still only 16, Rooney has scored a hatful of goals in pre-season and may find himself in the starting line-up for the Premiership opener.

Of course, we know all about him at Spurs after witnessing his performances in the FA Youth Cup semi-finals last season when his 30-yard scorcher in the second leg at the Lane still sticks in the memory.

Our director of football said: "It always is a tough test at Everton but the pressure on the first day is on the home side.

"They need to get away to good start, the supporters are expectant, they have a new manager in David Moyes, new players and you need to get away to a good start.

"They have two Chinese players, fascinating, and most intriguing of all, they have a young strtiker that we know all about.

"At a fans forum before the FA Youth Cup semi-final, a lot of the people were going on to watch the game asked me who to look out for. I said make your own judgements on the Tottenham players but you'll see a boy in Everton colours who looks something special."
