IT SOUNDS a cliche but we knew we had to earn the right to play at Coventry City on Wednesday night and we did it.
We knew what we wanted to do, we had an idea about how Coventry played and I think the lads showed the commitment and did what they had to do quite well.
No-one sold anyone short, they were true to themselves, played properly and tactically quite sensibly as well.
We needed the first goal to settle us, got it and defended very well. Players like clean sheets, to be strong at the back and everything else comes from there.
We were strong at the back and the players in front of the defence worked hard, the midfield and the front players and we're fortunate to have front players who can do things. We got a cushion and I thought we went on and were able to play a little.
Robbie Keane and Fredi Kanoute did well. Robbie's got trickery, cleverness. On the way to the goal he pushed it through Staunton's legs, which was quite audacious really. He's a fine player. I thought Fredi did well and was involved a lot.
I was asked at Coventry if those two will form a formidable partnership and I said that there is a big challenge up front - Postiga looks a good player and Zamora will be a good player.
Bobby wasn't involved at Coventry because he had a stomach problem. It's funny really - I stayed awake all Tuesday night wondering about who the substitutes would be and then I got a phone call saying he had a stomach complaint.
Overall, I couldn't have asked for more. We won convincingly and did what we had to do. We were supposed to be better technically and in the end we were.
