Considering that Darren has played in sides featuring the likes of Jurgen Klinsmann, Nicky Barmby and the first coming of Teddy, this is some compliment to the current crop.
"Potentially I would have to say this is as good as it's been," said Darren. "When you look around the squad, not just the first team, it definitely has the potential to be the best team."
Good players have come and gone in the past, but Darren hopes that a continuity is being put in place now that was maybe not there before.
"There have been times when the team was nearly there and we've sold key players at key times. It seems like we're not doing that anymore. We've got great youngsters and we've brought good players into the club.
"I don't think we will sell like that again. A lot of the players are tied to long contracts, that sort of thing and to me that's the biggest thing, that we keep hold of the squad and, of course, add to it."
Darren Anderton feels that the current squad is possibly as good as any he's been involved with in his ten years at the Lane.
