Daniel Levy: I won't interfere on football side

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Tottenham's owner-in-waiting, ENIC managing director Daniel Levy, insists he will "not interfere on the football side" when the company finally seal their controlling interest in the club. <P class=MsoNormal>Amid reports that George Graham's position as manager may be reviewed at the end of this season, with Mr Levy supposed to be an admirer of Glenn Hoddle, he insisted that no imminent changes were planned. <P class=MsoNormal>The ENIC managing director told the <I>Evening Standard</I>: "I don't want to get involved on the football side, that's why we employ professionals. <P class=MsoNormal>"The club's obviously got George Graham and ENIC have no plans to change the structure of Tottenham either on the playing or management side for the time being." <P class=MsoNormal>The deal is nevertheless expected to be completed in February next year, with Mr Levy underlining his intention to take a back seat by hiring a recruitment firm to search for a new chairman and chief executive. <P class=MsoNormal>Mt Levy's expertise will lie in attempting to ensure that Tottenham become a thriving business, although he was quick to recognise that "to have a successful club, you have to have a successful team". <P class=MsoNormal>He also revealed that outgoing chairman Sir Alan Sugar could have got more for his shares than the &pound&#59;22 million which he has accepted for just under 27% of his 40% stake. <P class=MsoNormal>Neither Mr Levy, who is now taking a Christmas break, or Sir Alan, who is in Florida on holiday, are planning to be at White Hart Lane on Saturday for the return of Terry Venables to the club in charge of Middlesbrough. <P class=MsoNormal>Mr Levy is nevertheless looking forward to taking his seat in the directors' box next year, although he underlined the fact that he was not on an "ego trip". <P class=MsoNormal>He declared: "I've been in the directors' box before, and I've been in the boardroom at Rangers and they are also a big club. <P class=MsoNormal>"This is not some ego trip for me and I won't be some starstruck fan." <BR style="mso-special-character: line-break"><BR style="mso-special-character: line-break"><P class=MsoNormal>&nbsp&#59;<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
