Our Sporting Director was full of praise for the efforts of all the staff as 34,574 fans packed into White Hart Lane to post a record attendance for an England Under-21 international.
Michael Dawson capped the night by captaining the side and Tom Huddlestone also put in a fine performance as England drew 1-1 with France in the first leg of the European Under-21 Championship play-offs. The second leg is in France on Tuesday with the winner through to next summer's finals.
Damien reflected: "The Tottenham staff were absolutely fantastic and everything was so well organised, as usual.
"The fact that we beat the record for an Under-21 crowd and we got so much support was superb for the Club.
From a football point of view, I was asked by French TV before the game what the result might be and I said '1-1', so I was safe on that one
"I know Michael and Tom were really pleased with the way things went and also the French players - I talked to them after the game and they were impressed by the atmosphere and that the ground was packed. It was a very, very successful night.
"I think the second leg will be equally as tight, maybe 1-1 again or 2-1 either way. It could go to extra time.
"The technical quality of the French midfield was great and for me, the key to qualification will be how England handle that midfield and on the other side, how France handle Bent and Cole up front."
Last night also saw the senior squad include two of our players, Paul Robinson and Ledley King, as they beat Argentina 3-2. Press reports (Sunday) suggested that Ledley had rejected a new five-year deal, but Damien has been quick to set the record straight.
“We initiated talks with Ledley and his advisors. Our discussions are in the early stages and will continue in private. It is totally inaccurate to say that he has rejected any offer - we haven’t made one. Ledley still has two and a half years of his contract to run.â€Â
Damien Comolli said the Club can be proud after what he described as a 'perfect night' as we hosted England Under-21s on Friday.
