Peter Crouch admitted he thought his chance of a first Spurs hat-trick had gone when we scored the fourth of our five goals at Preston.
With just three minutes left of the Carling Cup third round tie, Tom Huddlestone intercepted a pass out of Preston's defence and suddenly we were in a four-on-one situation on the edge of the box.
Tom had Robbie Keane to his left and Peter - on a hat-trick - to his right, both in goalscoring positions. He opted for Robbie and Keano made no mistake to make it 4-1.
"I had a few words with Tom because I was on a hat-trick!" laughed Peter afterwards. "Seriously though, I was delighted to see Robbie score because it was all about getting into the next round.
"At that point, I didn't think the hat-trick was going to come.
"It does enter your head as you go into the final 10, 15 minutes, you start thinking 'I'm on a hat-trick', you get that little more hunger and instead of seeing the game out, you are desperate for another chance.
"Thankfully that one last chance came my way and I owe Aaron Lennon because I said to him 'get me another chance' and he did exactly that."
And what a goal. The full move saw Keano cross deep to Aaron who in turn clipped a low ball in that Peter, back to goal, managed to back-heel home on the volley from 10 yards with the clock showing 91:11.
"All I could do was improvise," added Peter. "The defender missed his header and the only way I could get a shot on target was to do that and I was delighted to see it go in.
"I'm very proud to score the hat-trick. I left it late but I was delighted to get there in the end."
