Like many pundits, our Dutch goalkeeping coach picks out France as his favourites but believes a number of countries are in with a shout.
"France will start as favourites but there are a few counties in their heels," said Hans. "It's very open.
"I wouldn't rule out Holland and, for me, the dark horses are the Czech Republic.
"I've seen them three times now. The first time was against Holland and they played them off the park in Prague and that takes some doing.
"The second time I saw them was against lesser opponents and they didn't actually play that well.
"Germany are always there. They haven't been playing that well, lost against Romania 5-1, Hungary 2-0 but you never know. Sometimes a kick up the backside works for them, it could kick-start a good tournament for them."
The tournament starts with hosts Portugal against Greece on Saturday (5pm). England kick-off against France on Sunday (7.45pm)
Hans Segers feels 2004 in Portugal will be a very open European Championships.
