The defender gave us his thoughts on the summer tournament after departing the club at the end of last season - he's since been named in the German squad and only yesterday secured a return to the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach.
He said: "I think France have the best players and the best squad but so many things happen in tournaments.
"Look at Euro 2000 and what happened ourselves and England and then the World Cup 2002, Argentina and France.
"You never know before a tournament and there are always certain things happening in the build up.
"For Germany, if we can get it like it was in the World Cup in 2002, we might not have played the best football but we had a fantastic team spirit and that worked out well for us."
Certainly Germany's build-up hasn't been ideal, again, with a 2-0 loss to Hungary following the recent 5-1 hammering by Romania.
Yet Christian added: "Things never seem too go well for Germany in the run up to tournaments. If things were going well, I'd be worried. It's better to have problems now than in the tournament."
Christian Ziege picks out France as his favourites for Euro 2004 but warns: Anything can happen.
