Vedran Corluka has underlined the importance of tonight's City clash in our official matchday programme.

The teams with aspirations of pushing the traditional 'top four' all the way this season meet at the Lane in fifth and seventh place respectively in the Barclays Premier League after Birmingham's win against Blackburn on Tuesday night lifted them up to sixth.

It's a match that means that little more to Vedran - he kicked-off his career in England with the Eastlands side in 2007-08 before joining us in August. 2008.

Naturally disapppointed with Saturday's surprise 1-0 home loss to Wolves, 'Charlie' insisted the games against the likes of City and Villa represented our most important at the moment.

"This is a really big game for us, they are probably one of our biggest rivals for a place in the top four so we have to win these sort of matches," he said.

"A win not only pushes us forward and gives us just the sort of lift that we need but obviously it means they drop points too and any advantage will help.

"We've lost three games against the top teams in the league this season but I think it is more important to take points against those sides in and around us, like City are. These are the games where we need to make it count and then anything we get off the ‘big four' will be a bonus.

"We need to believe that we can stay in the top four. If you don't believe it then you have no chance of achieving it. We have had a couple of slip-ups lately but we have a good team and we need to establish that winning mentality again, and then keep it going."
