Assistant boss Chris believes any dark clouds still hovering will soon clear as the excitement of a UEFA Cup quarter-final against Sevilla looms and we compete for fifth place in the Premiership having won our last four league games against Everton, Bolton, West Ham and Watford.
“Naturally, it knocks the stuffing out of you,” reflected Chris on the 2-1 defeat against Chelsea. “For a start, it’s a loss and any loss hurts and then it’s a defeat in the FA Cup and you are immediately eliminated from the competition.
“So yes, the players were down but we’ve been in this position before and we’re still pushing hard on two fronts, the UEFA Cup and the Premiership.
“We’ve been very good at bouncing back this season and there is a lot of character in this squad.
“Our performances have been excellent of late, scoring lots of goals and we just fell below those standards against Chelsea.
“It’s nothing to be ashamed of, we have to learn from it, pick ourselves up and then look to the next game against Reading before embarking on our UEFA Cup campaign again against Sevilla. There is plenty to play for.”
