Confidence in Ifil

Posted on 19 August 2004  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Jacques Santini has hinted that Philip Ifil could hold onto his place for Saturday's trip to Newcastle United.

The young full-back, just 17, made an impressive Premiership debut after being thrown in at the deep end last week against Liverpool.

Phil seized his chance with injuries to Mauricio Taricco and Stephen Kelly and now Head Coach Jacques insists he's fully confident in his ability if he calls on the Academy trainee again at St James.

Both Mauricio and Stephen are on the mend but Jacques indicated that neither would be ready in time for the trip to the north-east.

"Philip Ifil had a good match on Saturday and it's possible he will play at Newcastle," Jacques told the press at this afternoon's pre-Newcastle briefing. "He played well against Liverpool and I am confident in him.

"I am waiting for the full information on the international players and injured players before I make my choice."
