The now Chelsea playmaker knows our elegant midfielder better than most having grown up with him at West Ham United and is delighted Michael is making such an impression since making the switch to White Hart Lane.
We grabbed a word with Cole after Saturday's encounter with Chelsea and, even though Michael has been a majestic presence in the centre of our midfield, he feels there is much more to come.
"He is a good player, a typical Tottenham player," reasoned Cole, a second-half substitute on Saturday. "I don't want to burden him with comparisons, but he is in the Glenn Hoddle mode with the way he spreads the ball about in midfield.
"He is going to be a big success here and has had a great start to his career.
"I know what he can do and I know there is more to come from him. It is great for the Spurs fans and team that they have got such a quality player.
"We had some good times playing together at Upton Park, but we have moved on now and I am just happy to see him playing and doing well. He is at a good club, one who pass the ball and play football the right way. It is good for him."
Cole agreed that the next challenge is a playing reunion for them in the England side.
"Exactly, there are squads coming up and I am in pretty good form myself when I am playing. Michael is as well, so you never know and it would be good."
Joe Cole says to expect even greater things from his former team mate Michael Carrick.
