Chris Hughton says that the 'hurt' suffered following the 4-0 defeat to Newcastle should be used as an added incentive to secure a positive outcome against Middlesbrough in the Carling Cup.
The heavy loss, Chris points out, was uncharacteristic after recent close games and he hopes that Boro will suffer from the reaction to the defeat of the players.
"It is fairly devastating to go from where we've been - keeping games pretty tight - to coming away with a defeat like we did," reasoned Chris.
"It knocks them back, it really does - but that is how you want it to be. You want a defeat like that to hurt, the more it hurts the bigger and better opportunity we have of bouncing back from it and doing well.
"That is how we've got to use it. What I will say, however, is that it was two special goals that gave Newcastle a head of steam and it was hard to come back from it.
"The bonus we have now is that we're straight back into big action and a wonderful opportunity to make progress in the competition."
