Tottenham Hotspur’s Football Development team coached two Thailand representative sides to success at this year’s prestigious Yamaha Asean Under-13 Cup.

Held every year in different regions across Asia, this year’s tournament hosted teams from Indonesia, India, Vietnam and Malaysia.

Our coaches, Mark Jones and Miles Leighton, put the two host nation teams through their paces for five hours per day for two days at the Yamaha Stadium – home of Thailand Premier League champions, Muang Thong UTD – before the tournament began.

After the two days, the improvement in the players was there for all to see, and all the boys and coaches from both teams were presented with Spurs goodies.

The Tournament itself was held over three days and saw a great turnout from supporters at the Yamaha Stadium.

The two teams performed to a high standard and Thailand A (FC Phuket) went through the whole tournament unbeaten, finishing top goal scorers, conceding the least goals and being crowned Champions after beating holders Indonesia 2-1 in the final in front of a 4,000 strong crowd.

Thailand B (Chiangrai United) finished third, beating Vietnam 3-1 in the Play-Off, and were also unbeaten up until they faced Thailand A in the semi-finals.

Two boys from each team were rewarded with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur in September, where they will train with a Football Development squad and also watch the Spurs v Liverpool game on September 18.
