Looking ahead and back on events on the same day in years gone by.

1    SATURDAY

1951    Our Reserves play their Southampton counterparts at The Dell in the first ever competitive match under floodlights in this country.

1962    Nico Claesen (pictured, above) born in Leut. The Belgian international would join us from Standard Liege in October, 1986.

2    SUNDAY

SPURS v MANCHESTER CITY, Premier League, at White Hart Lane, 2.15pm

1886    We beat South Hackney 13-1 in a home friendly.

1963    Jimmy Greaves scores a hat-trick as we beat Birmingham City 6-1 in Division One.

3    MONDAY

1973    Martin Peters twice on target as we beat Grasshoppers Zurich 4-1 in the UEFA Cup at White Hart Lane for a 9-2 aggregate.

2013    We return from Anji Makhachkala with a 2-0 Europa League victory. Jermain Defoe and Nacer Chadli score.

4    TUESDAY

1919    Striker Jimmy Dimmock, hero of our 1921 FA Cup win, makes his Spurs debut in a 1-1 draw at Lincoln.

2015    A brace from Christian Eriksen steers us to a 2-2 draw at Swansea City.

5    WEDNESDAY

1974    Mike England scores an usual hat-trick at home to Burnley – two were own goals! We lose 3-2.

2014    Christian Eriksen’s goal is enough to see us beat Southampton at the Lane.

6    THURSDAY

1965    Home-grown winger Neil Johnson makes his Spurs debut at home to Sunderland, a 3-0 win. Eddie Clayton among our goalscorers.

1993    We beat Burnley 3-1 at home in the League Cup. Teddy Sheringham (pictured, below) scores twice.

7    FRIDAY

1982    Jermain Defoe born in Beckton. Happy birthday, JD!

2007    We draw 2-2 at Liverpool thanks to a Robbie Keane double.

8    SATURDAY

1898    We beat Chatham 2-0 at home in the Southern League. John Cameron, who would soon take over as player manager, scores.

1932    We return from Preston with a welcome 6-2 Second Division win. Willie Evans hits two.

9    SUNDAY

1990    Paul Stewart scores both in a 2-1 League Cup win at Hartlepool United.

2001    Tim Sherwood is sent off for a second bookable at Tranmere where home midfielder Micky Mellon is also dismissed but we still progress 4-0 in the League Cup.

10    MONDAY

1908    Bobby Steel scores his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw at Blackpool.

1931    Future manager Arthur Rowe and goalkeeper Alan Taylor make their Spurs debuts at home to Burnley. The game ends one apiece.

11    TUESDAY

1959    Paul Miller (pictured, below) born in Stepney. He starts out with us as an apprentice in 1976.

1986    Nico Claesen makes his debut at Liverpool where we win thanks to a Clive Allen goal.

12    WEDNESDAY

1980    Ledley King born in Bow. He would join us as a trainee in July, 1997. Happy birthday, Ledders!

1984    Garth Crooks scores the only goal as we beat Liverpool at the Lane in a ‘live’ Friday night televised game.

13    THURSDAY

1888    Old Etonians knock us out of the London Senior Cup with an 8-2 win at Northumberland Park.

1990    We win 5-2 at Arsenal in a testimonial for Graham Rix. A 14,806 crowd looks on as Paul Stewart grabs a hat-trick.

14    FRIDAY

1995    Winger Ruel Fox plays his first Spurs game at home to Nottingham Forest. We lose 1-0.

15    SATURDAY

WEST BROMWICH ALBION v SPURS, Premier League, at The Hawthorns, 3pm

1899    Millwall Athletic provide the opposition in a benefit match for James McNaught and Tom Smith. We win 2-1.

1966    Goalkeeper Roy Brown makes his only senior appearance for us in a 2-2 draw at Blackpool.

16    SUNDAY

1965    We beat Manchester United 5-1 in the old First Division at White Hart Lane. Jimmy Greaves scores a cracker following an amazing run.

2011    A 2-2 draw at Newcastle where Rafa van der Vaart (pictured, below) converts a penalty and Jermain Defoe also scores.

17    MONDAY

2002    We play DC United in the Tottenham Tribute match which the American side win with a late goal. Paul Gascoigne, David Ginola, Jurgen Klinsmann, Chris Waddle and Clive Allen are among past Spurs players on show.

2009    Ledley King on target at Portsmouth in a 2-1 win.

18    TUESDAY

BAYER LEVERKUSEN v SPURS, UEFA Champions League, matchday three, at BayArena, 7.45pm UK time

1977    Paul Stalteri born in Ontario. The Canadian international would join us from Werder Bremen in May, 2005. Happy birthday, Paul!

2004    England midfielder Michael Carrick makes his Spurs debut at Portsmouth where we lose to a lone goal.

19    WEDNESDAY

1887    Bert Middlemiss born in Newcastle and would join us in November, 1907.

1974    Arsenal defeated 2-0 at the Lane. Steve Perryman and Martin Chivers score.

20    THURSDAY

Michel Vorm’s 33rd birthday.

1979    Glenn Hoddle takes over in goal from the injured Barry Daines at Leeds but we still win 2-1.

1992    Paul Gascoigne returns to the Lane to help his new club Lazio lift the Capital Cup.

21    FRIDAY

1950    We beat Stoke City 6-1 at the Lane. Les Bennett and Len Duquemin both score twice.

2001    Gus Poyet (pictured, below) on target at Newcastle where we win 2-0.

22    SATURDAY

BOURNEMOUTH v SPURS, Premier League, at Vitality Stadium, 12.30pm

1883    We stage a friendly with local side Latymer and win 2-0.

1977    Debutant Colin Lee hits four goals in a 9-0 home win over Bristol Rovers. Ian Moores also bags a hat-trick.

23    SUNDAY

1905    Bill Berry scores four in our 5-0 Western League win over Millwall at the Lane.

2004    Sad day as the great Bill Nicholson passes on.

24    MONDAY

1984    Glenn Hoddle is sent off during our 2-1 UEFA Cup defeat at Club Brugge. Clive Allen scores.

1987    Frank Bruno stops fellow heavyweight boxer Joe Bugner in front of 35,000 fans at the Lane.

25    TUESDAY

LIVERPOOL v SPURS, EFL Cup, fourth round, at Anfield, 7.45pm

1972    Back in the UEFA Cup, Jimmy Pearce bags a brace as we record a 4-0 second round victory at home to Greek side Olympiakos Piraeus.

2006    We return from MK Dons after a 5-0 League Cup win. Mido and Jermain Defoe both score twice with Robbie Keane also on target.

26    WEDNESDAY

1974    John Duncan steps up for his Spurs debut, a 1-1 draw at Luton Town where Martin Chivers scores.

2008    Harry Redknapp’s first game in charge. We beat Bolton 2-0 at home.

27    THURSDAY

1917    We beat Crystal Palace by the only goal in a wartime London Combination ‘home’ game at Highbury. Jimmy Banks scores.

2009    Tom Huddlestone (pictured, below) on target as we knock Everton out of the League Cup with a 2-0 triumph at the Lane. Robbie Keane also scores.

28    FRIDAY

1972    Four goals for Martin Peters at Manchester United where we win 4-1.

1992    A single goal League Cup victory at Manchester City as Vinny Samways hits the winner.

29    SATURDAY

SPURS v LEICESTER CITY, Premier League, at White Hart Lane, 3pm

2005    Ledley King on target for us in a 1-1 home draw with Arsenal.

2008    Another draw with the Gunners – this time 4-4 at the Emirates where we hit back from two goals down.

30    SUNDAY

1897    We beat the 2nd Coldstream Guards 7-0 in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup. Tom Meade nets twice.

2013    We need a penalty shootout to overcome Hull City at home in the League Cup as the game ends 2-2 after extra time.

31    MONDAY

1936    Full-back Ralph Ward scores his first Spurs goal in a 5-1 home win over Bradford City in Division Two.

2007    Juande Ramos’s first game as manager sees us beat Blackpool 2-0 at the Lane as we go on to lift the League Cup.
