1    TUESDAY

1987    On tour in Sweden and Finland, young striker Shaun Close scores four times as we beat the Lansi Uudenmaan District 7-2 in Karjaa. Clive Allen also bags a brace with a single for Chris Fairclough.

2007    A 4-2 friendly win at Leyton Orient. Robbie Keane with a brace (pictured, above), Jermain Defoe and Darren Bent share our goals.

2    WEDNESDAY

1934    We beat Charlton Athletic 5-0 in the Professional Club’s Lawn Tennis Championships.

2014    Six different goalscorers in our 6-1 win over Celtic at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki.

3    THURSDAY

Ossie Ardiles’s 65th birthday.

2002    We win 1-0 in a testimonial for Nigel Gibbs at Watford. Tim Sherwood scores.

2010    We lift the Eusebio Cup when Gareth Bale’s goal is enough to see us beat Benfica at the Estadio de Luz.

4    FRIDAY

1976    Chris Jones scores both our goals in a 2-1 friendly win at German side KSV Baunatal.

1984    Argentinian World Cup winners Ossie Ardiles and Mario Kempes play alongside each other again as we win 7-0 in a friendly at Enfield. Striker Kempes is on trial but is not taken on.

5    SATURDAY

SPURS v JUVENTUS, pre-season friendly, at Wembley Stadium, 5.30pm

1967    Jimmy Greaves scores twice as we draw 3-3 with Celtic at Hampden Park in a friendly. Scottish international Alan Gilzean also nets for us.

2013    Striker Roberto Soldado signs from Valencia.

6    SUNDAY

1976    Alfie Conn on target as we beat FV Bad Honnef 2-0. Gerry Armstrong also scores.

2009    Central defender Sebastien Bassong signs from Newcastle United.

7    MONDAY

1977    On tour in Sweden, we beat Royal Union (Umea) 2-0 to reach the Nokia Cup Final. John Duncan and Ian Moores score.

2004    Timothee Atouba signs from Swiss side Basel.

8    TUESDAY

1989    Gary Lineker scores twice as we win 5-1 at Viking in Norway. Paul Stewart, Terry Fenwick (penalty) and Paul Gascoigne also hit the target.

2015    We lose by the only goal on the opening day of the new campaign at Manchester United. Toby Alderweireld and Dele Alli (as substitute) make their debuts with fellow new boys Kevin Wimmer and Kieran Trippier on the bench.

9    WEDNESDAY

1999    We beat Newcastle 3-1 in our first home league game of the season at the Lane. Steffen Iversen, Les Ferdinand and Tim Sherwood share our goals.

2014    A 2-1 win against Schalke where Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado (pictured, below) see us home.  Former Spur Kevin-Prince Boateng nets for the home side.

10    THURSDAY

1987    Arsenal defeated 3-1 in Chris Hughton’s testimonial at White Hart Lane.  Danny Thomas, Clive Allen and Nico Claesen all score.

1997    We lose 2-0 at home to eventual champions Manchester United. Teddy Sheringham returns to the Lane on what was the opening day – and misses a penalty.

11    FRIDAY

1990    A goal from winger Paul Moran is enough for us to beat Sogndal on our Norwegian tour.

2007    Younes Kaboul and Darren Bent make their Spurs debuts at Sunderland. We lose 1-0 to a 94th minute goal.

12    SATURDAY

1967    Pat Jennings scores his only Spurs goal – in the Charity Shield against Manchester United at Old Trafford. The game ends 3-3.

1995    Gary Mabbutt’s testimonial at White Hart Lane sees us lose 2-0 to Newcastle United.

13    SUNDAY

NEWCASTLE v SPURS, Premier League, at St James’ Park, 1.30pm

2011    Our planned opening day home fixture with Everton is postponed due to civil unrest in the local area.

2016    Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen make their Spurs debuts at Everton. We draw 1-1 with Erik Lamela on target.

14    MONDAY

1965    Goals from Eddie Clayton and Cliff Jones see us beat Valencia 2-1 in Malaga in the semi-final of the Costa del Sol Tournament.

2004    We have seven debutants at Liverpool. Jermain Defoe nicks our equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

15    TUESDAY

1965    Alan Mullery’s single strike is enough to beat Standard Liege in the final and lift the Costa del Sol trophy.

2015    A 2-2 draw at home to Stoke City. Eric Dier and Nacer Chadli are our goalscorers.

16    WEDNESDAY

Moussa Sissoko’s 28th birthday.

1981    Garry Brooke’s penalty gives us a single goal win at Aberdeen in a testimonial for Willie Miller.

2014    Eric Dier makes his Spurs debut at West Ham and scores a last minute winner (pictured, below).

17    THURSDAY

1990    Ray Clemence’s benefit match sees us beat West Ham 4-1 at the Lane with two goals from Gary Lineker (one a penalty) and one apiece from Paul Gascoigne and Nayim.

1996    Victory on the opening day at Blackburn but our celebrations are muted as skipper Gary Mabbutt breaks his leg early in the game. He would miss the rest of the season. Chris Armstrong scores both in our 2-0 win.

18    FRIDAY

1952    Ricky Villa born in Buenos Aires. He would sign for us from Racing Club in June, 1978.

2013    A Roberto Soldado penalty gives us a single goal win at Crystal Palace.

19    SATURDAY

1986    Mark Falco is our marksman in a 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven in Barcelona’s Juan Gamper Tournament.

2009    Three goals for Jermain Defoe in our 5-1 win at Hull. Wilson Palacios and Robbie Keane also score.

20    SUNDAY

SPURS v CHELSEA, Premier League, at Wembley Stadium, 4pm

1986    We beat AC Milan 2-1 in Barcelona with Mark Falco and Gary Mabbutt sharing our goals.

2016    Victor Wanyama scores his first Spurs goal as we beat Palace 1-0 at the Lane.

21    MONDAY

1983    Bill Nicholson’s testimonial at White Hart Lane ends in a 1-1 draw with West Ham. Alan Brazil scores.

2004    Timothee Atouba scores his only Spurs goal to give us a 1-0 victory at Newcastle.

22    TUESDAY

1914    We face Arsenal at White Hart Lane in a friendly to raise money for the War Relief Fund. A crowd of 13,500 watches as we lose 5-1 with Billy Minter our sole goalscorer.

2015    Dele Alli scores his first Spurs goal in a 1-1 draw at Leicester.

23    WEDNESDAY

1961    Gary Mabbutt born in Bristol in what was to be a good year for the club!

2009    We return from West Ham with a 2-1 Premier League win as we open up the season with four straight wins. Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon score.

24    THURSDAY

2002    Jamie Redknapp (pictured, below) bags his first goal for the club as we beat Aston Villa 1-0 at the Lane.

2004    Michael Carrick and Noe Pamarot arrive from West Ham and Nice respectively.

25    FRIDAY

2010    After losing 3-2 to Young Boys in the first leg of our Champions League play-off, we beat them 4-0 in the return at the Lane thanks to a Peter Crouch hat-trick (one a penalty) and a single from Jermain Defoe.

2013    Another Roberto Soldado penalty wins it for us against Swansea City at the Lane.

26    SATURDAY

2007    Gareth Bale makes his Spurs debut at Manchester United where we lose by the only goal.

2014    Michael Dawson bids farewell after nine years with us to join Hull City.

27    SUNDAY

SPURS v BURNLEY, Premier League, at Wembley Stadium, 4pm

1988    Our scheduled opening fixture of the season against Coventry City is called off on the morning of the game due to ongoing building works at the stadium. This means Gazza making his Spurs debut at former club Newcastle.

2016    Danny Rose equalises in a 1-1 home draw with Liverpool.

28    MONDAY

1962    Paul Allen born in Aveley and would join us in June, 1985.

1982    Gary Mabbutt makes a goalscoring Spurs league debut in the 2-2 Division One draw with Luton Town at the Lane. Micky Hazard also scores.

29    TUESDAY

1925    Jimmy Dimmock’s goal is enough to beat Arsenal at Highbury on the opening day of the Division One season.

2013    Lewis Holtby bags his first goal for Spurs at home to Dinamo Tbilisi in the Europa League. Jermain Defoe hits two.

30    WEDNESDAY

1930    Ted Harper scores five times in our 7-1 home rout of Reading at the start of our Division Two campaign.

1975    Glenn Hoddle makes his Spurs debut as substitute at home to Norwich City. The game ends 2-2.

31    THURSDAY

1991    A sad day for all Spurs fans with the news that Cyril Knowles has died.

2016    Moussa Sissoko, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Pau Lopez (loan) all sign for Spurs on transfer deadline day.
