Our development coach is one of the modern day game's top notchers with 60 goals in 97 league starts for us - including a haul of 49 in 1986-87 - amongst his double century career goals tally.
Now he's passing that advice to our strikers and in-form Lee, the 20-year-old with four goals in his last four reserve games, has confirmed Clive's experience is of huge benefit.
Clive is also delighted with Lee. "He's an honest boy who wants to learn and wants to work and he's seeing the rewards for that," said Clive after Lee's two-goal haul in the impressive 4-1 win against Leicester City on Monday.
"We've spoken and I've told him that he needs to be selfish when it comes to scoring goals.
"It's something goalscorers have and I wouldn't deny I had it myself.
"He's taken that on board and looking to see if he can score goals. He's hungry for goals and the opportunities that present themselves at the moment he's taking them. Long may that continue."
Clive Allen is working on Lee Barnard's selfish streak - a trait he admits he knew all about in his days as a striker!
