The likes of Andy Barcham, Charlie Daniels, Charlie Lee and Tommy Forecast have stepped up from the Academy to the reserves this season.
It’s a huge season for them — and reserve coach Clive is pleased with what he’s seen so far.
“It’s been a good first week,” he reported. “All the professional staff have been together and we’re all working on the same plan.
“The younger lads have been accepted well by the senior group and integrated well, the groups have been mixed up and it gives them a good indication of the levels they need to find.
“The young lads have all come back very fit, they realise it’s a step up for them and the pre-season games will be important.
“The first team squad will go to Stevenage on Saturday and the second group will run parallel with them. The first team go out to South Korea next week and the plan is that when they come back, we’ll all be at the same level.
“The training plan and games arranged for pre-season will mirror what the first team is doing when they are away.”
Clive’s group kick-off their pre-season against Fleet Town on Sunday, kick-off 3pm.
He added: “It’s vital that we go about the games in the right way and try to get things right for what I feel will be an exciting season for the reserves.
“Andy Sinton is Fleet’s manager. We never played together but he played with my brother at QPR and of course he played here. It will be the right sort of game to start the season.”
Clive Allen has been delighted with the integration of our younger professionals into the senior group in pre-season training this week.
