Clive Allen found very little to criticise in the performance of his reserve side following the 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Aldershot on Monday evening.
In what was a finely executed carrying out of a game plan, the boys absorbed and repelled everything Chelsea had to offer while netting through excellent goals from Philip Ifil and Johnnie Jackson.
Now Clive is very rarely totally satisfied with a display over 90 minutes and again this was the case...
"Just a couple of sloppy things really - maybe exuberance and over-confidence," reflected Clive when asked to be picky. "When you are playing against a very good team you can't be sloppy, but it was only a couple of occasions and I jumped on them for it. I tell them what I see and the pleasing thing now is they hold their hands up and know when they've done it.
"The group is together and it was a collective performance. There were some good individual performances but the best thing was the team being collectively strong.
"They were excellent goals. It was a tight game and Phil got himself forward with a raid down the right and he had the confidence to go on and finish really well."
