Clinton Njie paid tribute to the White Hart Lane faithful after his Spurs debut on Thursday night.

The Cameroon international was introduced off the bench in the second half of our Europa League victory over Qarabag for his first appearance in our colours following his summer move from French side Lyon.

A quickfire brace from fellow new recruit Heung-Min Son meant we were 2-1 up when Clinton went on, with Erik Lamela later securing a 3-1 victory as we scooped our first three points in Group J.

Blown away by the backing of our supporters, Clinton confirmed the chance to make his debut with the victory on top made it a memorable night all round.

“It’s a great moment for me!” beamed the 22-year-old. “The Spurs fans here are very encouraging and they are always behind the players so for me it’s been a good experience.

“It was a good match because after 1-0 we came back into it and scored three goals.

“When I came on at 2-1 we were still in control but in football you never know what can happen and there’s always the possibility for either team to score, but we scored again so I think we did a good job.

“I’m satisfied with the victory, it was a good start. I think we deserved to win.”

With three more home matches fast approaching against Crystal Palace on Sunday, Arsenal in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday and Manchester City next Saturday, Clinton says the players must now fully focus on the challenges ahead and take each game as it comes.

“It’s always a positive sign to win games but now we’re going to go back to the training ground and work again,” he added.

“We have to prepare for the matches coming up against Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Manchester City, so we must get back to work quickly and get ready for the game at the weekend.”
