The midfielder has not kicked a ball in anger this season after suffering the problem in the summer.
But he was seen trotting around Spurs Lodge with a ball at his feet on Wednesday and appears more positive than he has been for some time.
Steve revealed: "I'm hoping to join in training on Friday and after a week or so's training, try to get a game in as soon as possible. Hopefully it won't be too long now.
"Obviously I've got to work on my fitness because I haven't done anything for about four months.
"There is a long way to go on the fitness side but at least the Achilles is feeling better."
Steve explained that the problem was an uncomfortable, 'irritable' feeling in the Achilles.
He added: "There was fluid in there which was irritating the Achilles.
"I could train a few days but after the third day it would blow up. I would get up in the morning and have to limp downstairs.
"It was irritating and the more I played, the worse it got. I had to give it the time it needed. There is still a way to go but it feels the best it's felt since I picked it up."
Steve Clemence hopes to join in training on Friday as he finally sees some light after an Achilles injury.
