We haven’t beaten the Blues since February 1990 but victory at the Lane this time around would haul us to within three points of the Stamford Bridge outfit and keep our faint European hopes alive.
Midfielder ‘Clem’ insisted: “We definitely owe them one. They are pushing hard to get into Europe and we need the points to finish as high as possible as well.
“The fans will be up for it and let’s hope they are the happiest after the 90 minutes.
“We are aware of the record but we have to see it as another game of football and play like we did in the second half against Sunderland on Saturday and a few other home games this season when we’ve played well.
“We have to put a good run together. There are some hard games and some good games coming up against teams who are above us and if we manage to beat them we will gain ground on them.
“We have to get three points against Chelsea first, that is most important.”
Midfield partner Tim Sherwood added about the record: “You can look too far into these things.
“If you worry about it it can be a mental block but until people mention it to me it doesn’t really cross my mind. We’ve just got to go out there and play and hopefully we’ll get a result.”

Stephen Clemence admits the lads are aware of our dismal record against Chelsea but says we have to see Tuesday night’s encounter as just another game.
