Clem out for three months

Posted on 30 August 2001 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Stephen Clemence will be out for up to three months after scans revealed a torn medial ligament in his left knee.
Midfielder ‘Clem’ was floored by Garry Flitcroft’s lunging tackle in Saturday’s Premiership encounter against Blackburn Rovers.
He hobbled off after just seven minutes at Ewood Park and scans earlier this week have confirmed his worst fears.
“I’ve torn my medial ligament so it looks like I’ll be out for two to three months,” said Stephen. “I’ve got to wear a brace for six weeks to start with and it will then be a case of trying to get fit again.
“I saw the specialist today (Thursday) and he said six weeks in this brace and then I should make a full recovery, which is the main thing.
“It could have been a lot worse. I’ve done the medial ligament but the next one along is the cruciate — that’s the one you don’t want to do and my season would have been over. Luckily that held on so I’ve just got the three months.
“The most disappointing thing is that I’ve done eight weeks pre-season, got myself in the team and it looked like the season was going okay but then you get something like this.
“I’m now out until around Christmas which is very disappointing but I have to keep my head up, try to be positive and come back stronger.”
Stephen insisted that he had no seen a re-run of the incident, suffice to say that he ‘didn’t think it was a good tackle’.
“I got to the ball before him, it was a little two-footed and once I felt my knee twist I knew it wasn’t good,” he added.
“I felt that when the tackle came in and although there wasn’t actually that much pain I felt it twist, went off for treatment and when I came back on, as soon as I went to turn it felt like the knee was going to give way, so there was no way I could go back on.
“I’ve not actually seen the tackle but everyone has told me it was a pretty bad one. I saw him coming in and tried to jump him but couldn’t get out of the way.”
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
