With an away record in the Premier League which can only be bettered by Chelsea and Arsenal, it’s results at the Lane which have proved costly with five defeats in N17 this term.
Jan insists we need to reproduce the performances that memorably toppled Arsenal and Chelsea on home soil if we are to achieve our goals.
“It is very important next season that we make our home ground a place that other teams don’t want to visit,” said our Belgian international defender. “We’ve suffered some disappointing results here this year and had we picked up a few wins in the games we lost, we would have been pushing higher up the table.
“We did show what we are capable of in the games against Chelsea and Arsenal and we need to show that tempo in our performances more often.
“Away from home we have done very well and our record is one of the best in the division. Teams have to come out and attack us a bit more and we can exploit that, so if we can improve our home form next season, then that will help us.”
City are next up at the Lane on Sunday. “Of course City are a very good team, they always make it a difficult game for us but they are usually exciting matches because they are a team which likes to attack and so do we,” he explained.
“It wasn’t the best day for us at their place earlier in the season, but we did beat them well here a couple of years ago and that’s the sort of performance we need to produce if we are to win."
