Our talented young midfielder is currently on loan at Second Division outfit Peterborough United, who take on Premiership giants Newcastle United in the FA Cup fourth round today.
The match will be played in front of a full house at London Road and televised live by Sky Sports.
But instead of pitting his wits against the likes of Shearer, Bellamy, Dyer and Speed, Ciaran will be sitting at home nursing a foot injury he sustained last week.
There were fears that the 20-year-old had fractured his ankle in an early challenge in a league game at Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday as Posh were forced to play just 24 hours after their FA Cup win against Darlington.
Thankfully those fears were allayed by scans this week.
Northern Irish international Ciaran confirmed: "This is no fracture but I've got a lot of swelling on the top of my foot. It's not as bad as I first feared.
"It is disappointing to miss out because this would have been a massive game to be involved in but these things happen in football."
Ciaran made his Football League and Posh debut on Boxing Day and has played seven matches since.
"The loan move has been good for me so far, a great experience," he added. "Now I just want to get fit and playing again as soon as possible."
