Ciaran's call

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Ciaran Toner has been drafted into Northern Ireland's full squad for the World Cup qualifier against Malta.

Our young defender, only 20 in June, has been called up by boss Sammy McIlroy alongside Grant McCann and Owen Morrison after injuries to senior stars Keith Gillespie, Aaron Hughes and Neil Lennon.

Ciaran will still play for the Under-21s on Friday night before, most likely, taking a place on the bench on Saturday.

McIlroy explained: "I always thought Keith was fighting a losing battle and he's told me that he could be out for another two or three weeks.

"With Lennon, the Celtic doctor rang the IFA to say he couldn't play. Of course, it's disappointing, but I would rather talk about the players I have got and get on with things.

"I've called in McCann, Toner and Morrison and they'll be training with us.

"I'll let them play part of the Under-21 game on Friday and the whole thing should be good experience for them."
