To win the internship, Chukwuemeka Ihenacho, a student from Tottenham UTC, competed against fellow students in a Dragon’s Den-style competition which was supported by the Club as part of its commitment to investing in education opportunities for the local community.
The competition challenged youngsters to develop a strategy to design an item of sports apparel and plan how to bring this product to market before pitching it to a panel of judges including representatives from the Club and Under Armour.
This was Chukwuemeka’s first time visiting America where he shadowed staff from various departments at Under Armour, learning about the life cycle of a product and social strategy to retail and sample sales.
Chukwuemeka also went on a whistle-stop tour of Washington D.C. and attended a baseball match at the home of the Baltimore Orioles.
Speaking about the experience, Chukwuemeka said: “The competition was one of the most exciting experiences of my life. It required a high level of creative thinking, entrepreneurial spirit, enterprise and innovation, which are some of the traits I’ve developed this year.
“When I found out that I’d won, I couldn’t stop grinning for a whole week! I’m thrilled to be working with Under Armour and getting a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating premium level, sports performance apparel."
This life changing opportunity is just one of a number of education initiatives delivered by the Club to help the local community access pathways to employment.
