JD has roared past 200 goals in his club career with an amazing 128 of them coming in a Spurs shirt. That ongoing return has seen him move up to eighth place in our table of all-time goalscorers - and who knows where he will finish!
Jimmy Greaves is way out there in front on 266 goals and looks safe as does his strike partner Bobby Smith (208) and Martin Chivers on 174. But the likes of Cliff Jones (159), George Hunt (138), Len Duquemin (134) and Alan Gilzean (133) are certainly within Jermain’s hotshot sights.
Defoe looks back on all his goals, including his first ever at senior level. And he pays tribute to the players around him who provide the ammunition that he feeds off.
“I’m lucky to be in a great team playing with great players,” he says. “We have a squad full of internationals - and that also keeps you on your toes.”
Defoe is also delighted - and honoured - that his recent spate of goals has seen him overtake the great Teddy Sheringham.
"Catching Teddy? That’s special,” says Jermain. “Teddy’s a striker I used to watch as a kid at school. He was a great footballer and a fantastic goalscorer. To go above Teddy is really something else.”
And one lucky reader will win Jermain’s signed Spurs shirt in our latest free-to-enter competition. We also have a selection of club CDs up for grabs.
