Christian chit-chat cut short

Posted on 10 May 2004  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

A bit of a chinwag with a former club and international teammate was as much as Christian Ziege expected on Saturday afternoon when Blackburn Rovers visited the Lane.

When the teams emerged from the tunnel, former Bayern Munich and on-loan Liverpool defender Marcus Babbel parked himself next to Christian in the dug-out area and the pair looked set for a lengthy chat about old times.

Just 12 minutes into the game, unbeknown to our German international, Mauricio Taricco went to ground with a calf problem and a spot of friends reunited was abruptly cut short and Christian went on to produce a stirring performance that certainly won the admiration of the supporters.

"It was a surprise for me," he laughed after the game. "I was sitting next to Marcus Babbel on the bench and I thought for at least the first half we would be sitting there talking to each other.

"All of a sudden he said to me 'I think you have to go on because your left-back is injured'. So I came on and I am really delighted to have got on and played a part."
