Our reserve team goalkeeper has starred in Kingstonian’s FA Cup run during his three-month loan spell at the Nationwide Conference outfit.
He performed admirably again on Saturday when the Surrey side were seconds from shocking Bristol City and taking their place in the fifth round. In the end it finished 1-1 and the two teams will replay at Kingsmeadow on February 7.
The loan has been ideal for Kelly after his reserve team opportunities were reduced by Ian Walker’s need for games following the arrival of Neil Sullivan.
Reserve team boss Chris said: "All we ask of young players is an improvement in their game and Gavin is one we have seen a fairly dramatic improvement in.
"We took Gavin after his YTS on a year’s contract certainly with some doubts still in our minds on certain aspects in his game and there have been dramatic improvements, notably in his kicking.
"I think the fact that he’s seen those improvements have spurred him on further.
"It’s all about match days, being able to make lots of decisions and all we can ask for is what he’s done.
"If we look at the reports we’ve had from Kingstonian they are absolutely delighted with him — enough to make a one-month loan period stretch into three months.
"We’re delighted as well because it’s not always easy top get young lads out on loan, especially goalkeepers.
"So the fact he’s on loan there is a big bonus for us.
"The next step is for him to be pushing on a regular basis in the reserve team, and for us to get him out on loan to a league side. We’re hoping he’s got a future."
Chris Hughton is delighted to see FA Cup hero Gavin Kelly taking strides towards a bright future with Spurs.
