It will be Christian's second reserve outing in eight days following what amounts to a 10-month absence with a thigh injury interrupted by a brief comeback at the end of last season and into early pre-season.
"He did very well at Southampton last week and he's trained superbly, that's never a problem with Christian, he's a great trainer," said Chris.
"It's a game he needs, he wants to play and we'll see where we are after his performance tonight.
"It's all about match fitness for Christian. You have to remember he's been out for a fair amount of time and not just one occasion, but out, back and out again.
"You can't just look at the last period out, you have to look at the longer period and make sure we don't push him back too soon and find the problem's there again.
"He couldn't have done more than he's done and I know he's looking forward to being out there again."
Chris Hughton has encouraging news on the progress of Christian Ziege as the German prepares for tonight's reserve clash against Watford.
