Clive Allen was impressed with how Mark Hughes and Dean Marney gelled in central midfield in the reserves fine win against Leicester City.
The engine room was certainly at full revs with the youngsters covering every blade of grass in the 4-1 win at Kettering Town's Rockingham Road.
The pair's workaholic attitude caught the eye with Mark's ability to sit deep allowing Dean (pictured right) to bomb forward with some effect - he crashed in four piledrivers and set up the second goal for Lee Barnard.
Development coach Clive said: "I thought they were disciplined and they worked well together.
"You can see that they've played together over a period of time, they dovetail very well. Overall it was an outstanding performance."
Clive can see things coming together. "We worked hard in pre-season and we're starting to find our feet," he added. "The boys have been very receptive, they listen and are keen to learn and I think we're making progress."
