Steven Caulker made his England Under-21 debut on Tuesday night but could not prevent a 2-0 defeat for the Young Lions against their German counterparts.

The young defender came off the bench 13 minutes from time in Wiesbaden with Stuart Pearce's men already two goals and a man down.

Konstantin Rausch gave the home side a 37th minute lead before substitute goalkeeper Jason Steele was dismissed in the 58th minute, leaving Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury to don the gloves - his first job picking the resultant penalty out of the net.

But Steven looked comfortable at the back after emerging in place of Liverpool's Martin Kelly having previously represented his country at Under-19 level.

Meanwhile, Danny Rose, who like Steven is currently on loan at Championship club Bristol City, earned his 14th cap at Under-21 level with a 90 minute stint.

He put a teasing ball across the face of the German goal seven minutes from time but to no avail on a frustrating night for the Young Lions.
