Harry Redknapp described William Gallas and Michael Dawson as ‘outstanding’ after the 1-0 win against Fulham.

The pair lined-up together for the first time this season in the heart of defence – ‘Daws’ was out injured for three months - and helped secure a second-successive clean sheet and third win out of three over the Christmas and New Year period.

Gareth Bale’s first half header was enough for maximum points but Fulham piled on the pressure after the break, forcing a number of key blocks, one great save from Heurelho Gomes and a clearance off the goal-line from Michael.

“We had to scrap and fight and I thought the two centre-halves were fantastic,” said Harry. “William Gallas and Michael Dawson got blocks in and they threw their bodies in the way.

“That's what good central defenders do when you are under pressure and they are two outstanding centre-halves.

“We managed to keep a clean sheet and that got us the win.

“It was William’s first game for a few weeks and he felt okay, but felt his hamstring tighten in the last 10 minutes. He carried on and was fantastic for us again. He’s been a great signing for us.”
