The midfielder pulled on the white shirt for the first time following his August switch from West Ham.
After a month out with an ankle problem, Michael stepped off the bench for the final 20 minutes with us trailing 1-0 at Fratton Park.
"It was important for me to get on and get minutes on the pitch," reflected Michael back at Spurs Lodge.
"It wasn't the ideal circumstances to come on when you are 1-0 down and you end up losing but that's the way things went.
"We'll put it behind us. I thought we could have nicked it, we had a couple of penalty claims and a couple of half-chances which sometimes go in but it wasn't to be.
"We've got to move on now. If we can get three points on Saturday it won't be too bad."
Meanwhile, Michael was delighted with the welcome from the travelling Spurs contingent. "They made me feel welcome even though it was a frustrating night all round. That was nice."
Michael Carrick conceded it wasn't the ideal circumstances to finally make his Spurs debut at Portsmouth but found some positives on Monday night.
