Our five new signings include young prospects Tom Huddlestone (aged 18) from Derby County, Aaron Lennon (18) from Leeds United and Wayne Routledge (20) from Crystal Palace.
Michael was introduced to the trio and their fellow newcomers Paul Stalteri and Teemu Tainio at the start of pre-season training this week.
We already had one of the youngest squads in the Premiership with the likes of Michael, Paul Robinson, Ledley King, Michael Dawson, Stephen Kelly, Andy Reid, Reto Ziegler, Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe all aged 25 or under.
“It just gets younger and younger!” joked Michael. “I feel old now! I’m 23 and I look around the squad and feel about 33!
“It’s good though. The club is looking forward and not just looking at the next season or two but beyond that.
“It is an exciting place to be at the moment. When I was with the England squad everyone was talking about how young the squad was with a lot of British boys as well and how good it was to have that nucleus.
“Add the foreign lads to that and it’s ideal. If we can get the new lads in and settled quickly I’m sure things can go well.
“I believe you still have to live for the moment and try and do well in the next game but the future looks bright and as long as we build on last season, I’m sure the progress will continue.”
Michael Carrick has admitted our summer arrivals have left him feeling old - at the ripe old age of 23!
