We travel to Portsmouth on Boxing Day, host Charlton on Sunday and then it's Crystal Palace in the FA Cup at the Lane on Saturday January 3.
"We're not firing on all cylinders at the moment but we can take a lot of encouragement from the last half-hour against United," said the stand-in skipper.
"It's results we need now. We're only two points off the bottom three and that's the reality of it. I think we need to do well in the next two games and put some points on the board."
After a bright start, Pompey have slipped into the Premiership's bottom three.
They took a point at Highbury in September but since beating Liverpool in October have only won once - albeit a 6-0 crushing of Leeds - in eight league games.
"Yes, they had a great start to the season but they've cooled off at the moment," added Stephen.
"They've had a few results go the wrong way. It will be a difficult game, no doubts. We both need the points. We'll go down there positive and we're working very hard to pull things around.
"The fans perhaps expect us to beat these sides but the likes of Charlton, Fulham, Southampton, they are all up there and up there because they grind results out and stay solid. They are all diffcult games and they come so quickly over Christmas, but we need the points."
Stephen Carr says results are all that matter over the busy Christmas and New Year period.
