Stephen Carr says there is plenty more to come from him as his fitness improves by the game.
The flying wing-back has played nine games after returning from a hamstring pull on the opening day of the season at Everton.
That problem followed a nightmare year on the sidelines with a knee injury.
Honest as ever, the Irish star insisted he wasn't where he wanted to be at the moment but explained that it was almost a case of trying to hold onto the reins a little.
"My performance is not up to what I want yet and I think it will be a little while," he said.
It was quickly put to him that people might forget that he'd been out for all-but 18 months. "I do myself," he responded. "I'm getting there but I can't expect too much until I get my full fitness back.
"When you get that it helps with your performance especially where I play, going forward a lot.
"I don't feel I can quite get there at the moment throughout the whole game so I have to bide my time a bit.
"The more games I play the fitter I'll get and hopefully in a few more games I'll be there."
