Boro arrive at the Lane on Saturday one from bottom of the Premiership having lifted themselves off the foot with a win against Chelsea last weekend.
For many it is a surprise to see the Teesiders down there but Carr, who experienced a relegation fight at Spurs a couple of seasons ago, says that cannot be the case.
The Irish star said: “It all goes on results. People can say we’re just a few points off the top six but we don’t deserve to be there because of our away form.
“Are they in a false position? I don’t know. Perhaps it’s because they have so many good players in the squad.
“We had exactly the same a couple of years ago and we deserved to be there because we weren’t winning games.
“It’s like saying Ipswich are in a false position in third — of course they are not, they deserve to be there.
“I wouldn’t say they are in a false position. You wouldn’t expect them to be there because of the money they’ve spent and the players they have but it happens.”
Nevertheless, the full-back is well aware of the dangers of a Terry Venables-inspired Boro at the Lane. They have, after all, won on their last two visits to N17.
Carr added: “We need the three points, whoever it is. They haven’t been the best team for us over the last couple of seasons but they way we’re playing at home we shouldn’t fear anyone.
“It will be difficult, they have quality players and we’ll show them respect. But we should be confident.
“We’ve three games in eight days and it’s important we go out and try to pick up maximum points, starting with Middlesbrough.
“That will be tough though because they’ve got a great result last week. They’ll have plenty of confidence, especially with a new manager on board and they’ll be fired up. We have to make sure we keep our home form up.”
