Our current stand-in skipper is expected to take his place in the Irish defence for the massive game in Basle.
There are many permutations in the group but, in a nutshell, if Ireland win they are guaranteed a play-off place. Russia are also very much in the shake-up - if they beat Georgia, as expected, they will also be guaranteed at least a play-off spot.
"It's a massive game and a great game to be involved in," said Stephen. "It's in our hands - we have to win the game to guarantee a place in the play-offs.
"There was talk about just going for a point, but that's hard. At least we can go out there with the freedom to attack and hopefully it will come off for us.
"I'm very confident. At the end of the day people tend to forget that we lost the first two games in the group and we were written off.
"People didn't think we had a chance. Anyone in Ireland would have taken this position after those two results. We've a good squad who work hard for each other and I believe we can get the result."
